What is the most recent item that you've added to your workspace?
That would be the Logitech Lift Vertical Mouse. I’m getting old and have started to deal with more wrist pain after many years of heavy computer work. I’ve tried a bunch of different mice after begrudgingly moving away from the Magic Trackpad, and I’ve finally found the best solution in the Logitech Lift. It still looks good while being ergonomic and comfortable. You can also program it well enough to replicate a lot of gesture-based shortcuts, which helps ease the pain of giving up a trackpad setup.
How do you spark creativity?
I’ve spent a lot of my career designing mobile apps—especially true in my current role on the Shop team. I love downloading any new app that gets released, especially early builds folks share on TestFlight. I usually end up with a bunch of screenshots and screen recordings that I revisit to spark new ideas. I also find Mobbin to be an incredibly invaluable source of inspiration.
When I’m designing, I’m very digitally focused—I’ve never done as well sketching things out on paper. Instead, I love jumping straight into prototyping as early as possible to spark ideas and explore. I’m a heavy Origami user and usually find my desktop littered with different concepts and approaches.
What does your typical day look like?
I have two kids (7 & 3), so my day usually starts with getting them ready and dropping my oldest off at school. I always start my day with an espresso—another hobby I’ve dove deeply into. Once I’m home, I get right into it, usually making a plan for what I want to tackle. If I have meetings, they’re usually stacked in the morning so I can reserve my afternoons for deep work. Sometimes I’ll break things up with a small pour-over coffee and take little breaks to check in with my wife and our youngest. I try to keep a strict 9–5 so we can have as much family time as possible in the evening—dinner, playtime, and the bedtime routine.
