What hardware and tools make up your workspace?
Fujifilm GW690
Voigtländer Bessa R
Fujifilm X100V and X-Pro3
Mac mini and MacBook Pro
LG UltraFine monitor
Vintage desks, cabinets, and chairs found locally
What is the most recent item that you’ve added to your workspace?
I most recently added my Fujifilm GW690, a medium format film camera. It’s big and heavy, affectionately known as the Texas Leica, but the photographs sing.
What is one change you’d like to make to your current workspace?
Over the past year, my favorite place to work has become the old tanker desk in the corner, which I saved from our local newspaper plant. But in a 500-square-foot room, it feels a little strange to sit in the corner facing the wall. So I have a rearranging day ahead of me.
Walk us through your morning routine. What’s the first thing you do at your desk?
I arrive, walk around turning on the lights, make a cup of coffee, and read my email.
What’s one productivity trick that actually works for you?
Wired headphones, and a lifetime subscription to Freedom.
What’s the most underrated app or tool you use every day?
Whether it’s underrated probably depends on your milieu, but I’d say Codex. The first week after it launched, I used it to clone and redeploy all of my websites and cancel about $1,000 a year in website-builder subscriptions. Now I’m also using it to interact with files on my computer more intuitively. It’s fun.
