What is your favorite item in your workspace?
When I left GitHub in 2020, I received a beautiful 3D-printed piece that reflects my 9 years of contributions while at the company. This is very special to me and is probably my favorite item on my shelves of knickknacks.
How do you spark creativity?
I enjoy following what designers are doing at other dev tools companies, but I find that I'm most inspired when I break out of this bubble a bit. I'm fascinated by industrial design and observing how practitioners in that field work in three dimensions and have to consider things like materials and tactile feel. Minimalissimo and SearchSystem are fun to follow.
How do you keep the work-life balance?
Work-life balance has always been important and non-negotiable to me and I've had the good fortune of working for employers that take this seriously. I find that if I work hard during normal work hours, my brain is pretty fried by 5 pm and I'm ready to get away from the computer. I also have a 6-year-old son who makes sure to let me know when it's time to play. :)
