Kara's Workspace Tour

Workspace Items

Wall Art and Decor

What is the most recent item that you've added to your workspace?

I recently got a new desk chair. I sit cross-legged 99% of the time, so I wanted a really wide, deep chair made for sitting like this. After much research, I settled on the Pipersong Criss Cross Chair, and I couldn't be happier! It's so roomy and comfy.

How do you spark creativity?

I'm almost always reading at least two books — one nonfiction, one fiction. Reading keeps a steady stream of new ideas coming into my brain. I also collect creative hobbies like infinity stones, so I'm constantly thinking about my next project and collecting inspiration from Pinterest, TikTok, and other sources.

What does your typical day look like?

I'm not an early riser, and I enjoy a slow morning. I get up around 8 or 9, cook breakfast (usually eggs and toast), and drink tea while doing the NYT puzzles on my iPad. Around 10am, I sit down at my desk and start going through emails and planning my day. I dive into client work (usually drafting a blog post or article) for a few hours and take a break for lunch around 1pm. After lunch, I usually write some more, but I often take a break and/or nap around 3 or 3:30.

In the evenings, I love watching movies with my husband in our home theater! But when he's working 14+ hour days during busy seasons (he's a farmer), I'll often do another work session in the evening. I typically work 4-5 hours per day.

What do you enjoy most about WFH life?

I live in a very rural area with very few job options, so doing freelance work from home is a great fit. Also, my husband's working hours are variable and seasonal, so it's nice that my work is so flexible. And I'm a homebody — I love being relaxed and comfy in my own space.
